BARRIE SHIPS HUTCHINSON TO LONDON

The Barrie Colts have traded goaltender Michael Hutchinson to the London Knights in exchange for a plethora of draft picks. The Boston Bruins draftee split the starting position with Peter Di Salvo last season going 15-20-0-1 with five shut-outs, third most in the OHL....Barrie added their 7th round pick in the 2011 OHL Entry Draft and their 24th overall pick in the 2009 CHL Import Draft in to the deal. In return Barrie received the 15th overall pick in the Import Draft, Belleville's 2nd round pick in 2011, Kitchener's 2nd round pick in 2011 and London's 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2014, both of which are conditional....Barrie native Hutchinson spent three seasons in a Colts uniform after they drafted him in the 4th round (69th overall) in the 2006 OHL priority selection.


Hutchinson is off to London.
   

COLTS SELECT ALEXANDER BURMISTROV

The Barrie Colts have selected Russian center Alexander Burmistrov in the CHL Import Draft. The Colts moved up to take Burmistrov with the 12th overall pick after making a big trade Tuesday morning. The Colts traded goalie Michael Hutchinson to London in exchange for the 15th overall pick in the Import draft and four picks in the OHL Entry Draft. Barrie then sent the 15th overall pick and a fourth round pick in 2011 to Oshawa for the 12th overall pick in Tuesday's Draft, which they then used to select prospect Burmistrov. The 6'0", 170 lb center represented Team Russia at the Under-18 tournament and was third on the team in scoring.

 

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING SELECT ALEX HUTCHINGS

The Tamp Bay Lightning have selected Alex Hutchings in the fourth round of the NHL entry draft, 93rd overall.  Hutchings has led the Colts in scoring in each of the past two seasons, accumulating 63 goals.  The 5'10" winger from Burlington, Ontario is a two time OHL all-star.


Hutchings was picked 93rd overall.
   

KINGS SELECT KYLE CLIFFORD IN THE SECOND ROUND

The Los Angeles Kings have selected Barrie Colts forward Kyle Clifford with the 35th overall pick at the 2009 NHL entry draft in Montreal.  The Ayr, Ontario native is coming off a very good season in which he showed steady improvement throughout the year.  He finished with 16 goals and 28 points to go along with 133 penalty minutes....The first round of the NHL Draft got under way Friday night with the New York Islanders selecting John Tavares first overall.  Tampa Bay then picked Victor Hedman, leaving Matt Duchene for the Colorado Avalanche.


Kyle Clifford was selected 35th overall.
   

COLTS ACQUIRE LUKE PITHER

The Barrie Colts have acquired center Luke Pither from the Belleville Bulls.  Pither has played 240 career games in the Ontario Hockey League and will be spending his over-age season as a member of the Barrie Colts, as Barrie fills a big gap at the center-ice position. The six foot, 195 pound native of Burketon, Ontario split last season with Guelph and Belleville; scoring 35 goals and 72 points.  He added 19 points in 17 playoff games as Belleville went to the Eastern Conference Finals, Pither has played in the playoffs in all four of his OHL seasons.  "Well we are very excited to have an experienced center join our club," said Colts Head Coach Marty Williamson.  "He is a very versatile offensive player, he is very gifted in the face-off circle and he fills a hole that we have been looking to fill for quite some time."  Barrie will return two future second round draft picks to Belleville that were initially traded to the Colts on April 30th, they will also give up Plymouth's third round pick in 2010, all picks are conditional.

COLTS SIGN PAWLACZYK

The Barrie Colts have come to terms with their 2008 fourth round draft pick Dean Pawlaczyk. The Madison Heights, Michigan native has decided to sign on with Barrie, despite being heavily recruited by several NCAA schools. Barrie selected the 5'11" forward 66th overall back in 2008. He spent last season with Traverse City of the North American Hockey League and played minor midget with Belle Tire AAA where he was the assistant captain and led the team in goals scored.
